While a lot of car companies in Japan were knockdown producing their famous overseas partners’ cars, TOYOTA tried sticking to manufacture 100% Japanese made cars.
In 1955, TOYOTA finally made 100% Japanese made car called “Toyopet Crown,” it was not as great as the cars of their counterparts in North America and Europe.
In 1958, Fuji-jyu company (SUBARU) released SUBARU360 got very popular in Japan. After that, other manufacturers also started releasing their cars.
Japan had Olympics in 1964 and World Expo in 1970 which brought Japan special procurement demand and finally Japan got to be in the second place GNP wise.
