Car Industry History of Japan Vol. 5

After Japan recovered from WW2 and special procurement demand brought by Olympics and World Expo, people in Japan wanted bigger and fancier cars. 

Toyota released a small passenger car “Publica” in 1961 and they released “CAROLLA” in 1966 which became “The Car of Japanese People.”  In this time of the history, Toyota and Nissan were the top two companies in Japan who competed intensely.

In 1960s, the first Japan Grand Prix was held and authentic Japanese made sports car such as Toyota 2000GT, Mazda Cosmo Sports, Nissan Fair Lady Z, Honda S600…etc were produced by Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda.
