In 1991, after the bubble economy collapsed in Japan, the sales of new cars decreased for the first time in the past 7 years.

At the same time, people started putting more focus on how functional their cars are, not like “fancy and cool” cars anymore.

It was said that “only companies who manufacture 4,000,000 cars a year will survive.”  A lot of big and famous car companies merged at this point.
