Japanese Cartoon History vol. 1

I believe that Japanese cartoons are one of the things that attract a lot of people to Japan.

The first cartoon in Japan was the picture book published somewhere between year 700s to 1000s which was the similar sense of humor, satirize and stories.

By the beginning of 1700s, a lot of hand writing cartoons were published and by the 1800s, along with the development of printing, novels with paintings, illustration posters and ukiyoe (a picture [color print] of everyday life in the Edo period) were developed.

An English illustration journalist, Charles Wirgman came to Japan in 1857.  He published the first cartoon magazine in Japan in 1862.  The stories in there were mostly about satirizing the Japanese politics and media back then.
