Japanese Cartoon History vol. 2

After the first cartoon magazine by Charles Wirgman, many Japanese newspapers with pictures and paintings were published.  Some of them were banned from the government because they were often satiric against the government.

In 1896, Beisaku Taguchi started a series cartoon on one famous magazine back then and this was the first series cartoon in Japanese cartoon history.  It was about two boys traveling and what this cartoon was special about was consistency in the story meaning it was always about two boys traveling somewhere.

In 1899, Rakuten Kitazawa who was a member of one famous newspaper company, started a series comics and people liked it.  This was the first panel cartoon in Japan.
