Japanese Cartoon History vol. 3

In 1902, anti-government media started having socialism cartoons on their newspapers though a lot of them got banned by the government.

Rakuten (see the last post) published his own satire cartoon magazine.  It was also anti governmental.  On the other hand, he also volunteered to be a propaganda cartoonist for Japan-Russia war.

In 1912, Ippei Okamoto who was a stage artist became a exclusive cartoonist for Asahi Newspaper.  His cartoon was always with sentences and also not about anything related to politics as those cartoons before his were almost always like anti-governmental.  It was just funny and an entertainment.
