Japanese Cartoon History vol. 8

During 1960s, Japanese cartoons were classified into four categories such as boy cartoon, girl cartoon, graphic novel cartoon and adult cartoon. 

In 1962, a lot of famous publishers has started their long-time famous monthly girl cartoon magazines for the first time. 

In 1963, Osamu Tezuka who is famous for his cartoon, “Astro Boy” started producing TV animation.  He did not only look at Japanese market but also other countries’ markets.  After his attempt, TV cartoons increased which were originally from cartoon magazines.

A lot of magazines this time had opportunities to find new and young cartoonists.  They tried to have young cartoonists have their own cartoons on their magazines.
