Baseball Bats to Chopsticks??
Hyozaemon Co., is a long-established chopsticks manufacturer in Japan.
They collect broken baseball bats and recycle them into chopsticks.
A portion of the profits is used to nurture Japanese ash (aodamo) forests; bats are made from aodamo trees.
In Japan, professional leagues and other groups break about 200,000 baseball bats annually,
while it takes about 60-70 years for one aodamo tree to grow enough to be made into a bat.
4-5 pairs of chopsticks are made from one broken bat.
Kudos to Hyozaemon for raising awareness of diminishing aodamo trees amongst the baseball community and bat manufacturers.
